Last week we have learned the basic form of “ないでください” and the nuance under different circumstances. Today I will introduce the ways of response for such nuance respectively. First, let’s have a brief review.
Imagine that you are in a museum. You have been told that do not touch the articles.
– すみませんが、この会場では品物に触らないでください。
As we have learned,
1. It could be the situation that you are told before entering the museum which means it is an advice.
2. Meanwhile, it could also be the situation that you have somehow touched an article and are being warned by the attendant.
Therefore, you should response as the following ways if you are in the situation of
1. beforehand: はい、わかりました。(Sure.)
2. on the spot: すみませんでした。(Sorry.)
Next time I will introduce another situation of making a request by using “ないでください”. I hope you enjoy it. See you next time.
